How to Walk Your Dog in Three Easy Steps

After watching The Dog Whisperer for the first time and seeing five consecutive shows on the weekend, I can now walk my dog easily around the neighborhood without him stopping and sniffing every few minutes. Cesar Millan, The Dog Whisperer, has a unique and simple philosophy about the human-canine relationship. It basically boils down to being calm and assertive to display yourself as the pack leader. Though most of Cesar's shows deal with the worst of the worst cases, his philosophy can be applied to all dogs with significant success.

How can I now walk about twice the distance in the same amount of time as before with my dog? Follow these easy steps:

  • Be your dogs pack leader
  • Stay calm while being assertive
  • Use instinct and body language to correct unwanted behavior early

If you've seen the show on National Geographic, then the third item is easy to understand. For example, if your dog has a problem of pulling on the leash and taking you on the walk, then correcting this behavior with a swift and light check of the leash with a schhhhh sound will bring your pup back inline. Being consistent with this behavior will soon allow you and your dog to get more exercise and be more happy.

The shows are great and I highly suggest reading Cesar Millan's new book Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar's Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life, you and your dog won't regret it!
